It’s Maharastra Day today! It’s also a day synonymous with Labour Day around the world. Celebs tell After Hrs what the day has come to mean to them on the 52nd year of the State...
On Maharashtra Day, I think we should be proud of our state and our country and make the country proud as well. I am hoping and praying and looking forward to a better tomorrow for all of us. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra.— Lata Mangeshkar, Singer
What makes Maharashtra Day special is that it’s not religion specific, but state specific and I’m sure each and every one of us living here feels proud to belong to a state which is so tolerant and forward in every sphere, be it economically or socially. But more than anything, Maharashtra is really a state of dreams and so many of us would vouch that our dreams have indeed come true here.— Riteish Deshmukh, Actor

our school would be shut for the weekend. However, I do remember the parade that would take place at Shivaji Park. We don’t really celebrate Maharashtra Day particularly but being a Mumbaikar and a Maharashtrian, I celebrate the spirit of the city and India. Today, I am going to be playing a celebrity, charity cricket match with some of the other actors like Genelia Deshmukh and Salman Khan, the proceeds of which will go towards helping the underprivileged and physically challenged children. ISHA Koppikhar, Actor
Being born and brought up in Maharashtra, this day sure holds a great significance in my life. This is one State which we have seen run smoothly even in the most chaotic times. Despite facing several adversities, hats off to all of them who make it work. From the officers running the government to the household assistants to dabbawalas, I think this never say die attitude stems from the fact that we are all united and no matter what, will be there for each other anytime anywhere. Jai Maharashtra! — Amrita Rao, Actor
This day is extremely significant to me as I am a pucca Maharashtrian, by birth and at heart and I love to celebrate anything associated with this day. We as a state are extremely united and loving and accepting of everything that comes our way and I’m very proud to be living in this State. The fact that we are so tolerant of all religions and languages makes it unique. That’s where the strength lies.— Mugdha Godse, Actor
It's a very special day today. Most States were formed earlier but Maharashtra had to struggle for it. Maharashtra was among the two states, besides Bengal to have progressive thoughts during the freedom struggle, especially where women's education is concerned. However, despite all the plus points, I feel the people have let this State down. Today each of us has to be aware of what one has to do for the State and take it forward to make it Maha Rashtra.— Renuka Shahane, Actor
