HC gives relief to Cong MLA Alpesh Thakor

The Gujarat High Court has stayed the trial in defamation proceedings initiated against Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor by then superintendent of police Niraj Badgujar pending in a Deesa Court for three more weeks. The court has also directed the Banaskantha sessions court to decide on the plea of Thakor against the defamation proceedings within this period.
Notably, Thakor had earlier moved the sessions court against the defamation proceedings and sought a stay on the same until his plea is decided. While the plea remained pending, the sessions court refused to grant any stay on the proceedings, against which Thakor moved the high court.
