When I moved to Bengaluru five years ago, the writing community was small and literary occasions — small, cozy book launches in book shops where the only refreshments on offer were tea and soggy biscuits — were rare, but eagerly awaited. In those years, when the skyline of Bengaluru was dominated largely by trees and skyscrapers were few, a couple of writer friends would gather religiously on my terrace for a bottle of wine and discuss life, love and relationships. One of those writers, Shinie Antony, mentioned Sam’s (my) terrace in her acknowledgements when she published her latest book When Mira Went Forth And Multiplied. At a reading, when she presented an excerpt that dealt with her two principal characters, Sam (not me) and Delta.
