Government hospitals see surge in sex-change surgeries

An engineer, a UPSC aspirant and a security guard are among the seven people about to undergo sex reassignment surgery at the Delhi government’s Lok Nayak Hospital. The last five years have seen a hike in the sex change surgery cases at government hospitals, a procedure generally associated with private hospitals. The seven pending cases at the Lok Nayak Hospital include four men and three women.
Vikram Chauhan (name changed), a recent graduate from the reputed BITS Pilani, knew that he wanted a sex change since his first year of college, but never had the courage to reach out to his parents. After graduation, he finally convinced them.
