As the Triple Talaq Bill was met with stalemate in Rajya Sabha, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, spoke up against it for the first time on Wednesday, levelling serious allegations against the BJP-led Central government.
Speaking at a public meeting in Birbhum district, Mamata termed it as a ‘defective Bill’ and said, “We had not protested strongly against it before because we also want the social security of women, but this Bill that has been passed is a defective one. The Centre is pushing a Bill which will not protect the interest of the women in the state, but will only jeopardise their lives. The BJP is doing politics over the Bill and will only end up instigating a particular community,” she said.
