Squads will penalise centres for violating sex determination laws

In a bid to eliminate the illegal practice of sex determination and female foeticide from society, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) have sprung in action. They have already sealed four centres that were violating Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994.
Dr BN Telang, medical superintendent at Panvel Rural Hospital, said, "This is a part of the special drive that was started by the chief secretary of the state J Banthia which is aimed at identifying miscreants violating Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, and illegally conducting sex determination tests.
