In a first, Monorail sees influx of commuters

The Wadala-Chembur Monorail corridor that barely has any takers on a regular day, came to the city’s rescue following the BEST strike since Tuesday. As a result, the Monorail’s ridership rose by almost 80 per cent in four days.
The daily ridership of about 12,000 to 15,000 people rose to around 25,000 as on Thursday; the MMRDA expects it to double with a footfall of 30,000 people by Friday.
The MMRDA stated, “The Monorail has cumulatively carried 72,249 commuters on January 8, 9 and 10, 2019, that is, 30,295 more commuters as compared to the immediate previous three days on January 5, 6 and 7, 2019 when it carried 41,954 commuters.”
The statement read, “The revenue collected on January 8, 9 and 10 is Rs 4,87,060.
