Last week, the Budget 2018-19 announcements proved to be a case of great expectations remaining unfulfilled for the real estate sector in India. The final bi-monthly monetary policy review of the fiscal by RBI was another opportunity to take positive steps and provide an impetus. This too, was given a miss with the RBI leaving lending rates unchanged. Joe Verghese, Managing Director, Colliers International India, described it as, “After getting completely missed out from the budget, the real estate industry is also unlikely to get any relief in the form of interest cuts from the RBI currently more concerned about the risk of rising inflation and global uncertainties.”
