Ahmedabad: Pray that in the next coming days, the route you take to work doesn't develop any major snag. More than 5,000 contractors across the state have gone on an indefinite strike from Sunday, which means their workforce will not be available to carry out any civic work.
A day before the GST Council is set to take stock of the implementation of the new tax regime, which was rolled out on July 1, the Gujarat Contractors' Association (GCA) called an indefinite strike from Sunday to protest against the 18 per cent GST (Goods and Services Tax) imposed on the construction sector. The sector, which includes PWD's infrastructure projects, earlier used to pay just 0.6 per cent tax.
