Solapur’s Gangabai comesto Dadar to brighten Diwali

Mumbai: As Gangabai Pawar (43) ties flowers with a thread, her husband Arun (45) selects leaves that are still fresh and can be used with them. This is the first time Arun and their son have visited Mumbai during Diwali. The Pawar had no choice but to make Mumbai pavements their home to earn a living due to the severe drought in Karmala. They are not alone. There are a number of families like the Pawars who float in and out of the Dadar flower market to make ends meet. “For the poor there is no Diwali. Stomach comes first. When we go back home, we will prepare something from whatever little we have earned,” said Gangabai.
