State govt quietly pulls VIP security out of RTI’s purview

The next time you put in an RTI application to know just how many personnel from the city police are diverted to guard VIPs or enjoying undue protection, expect to be stonewalled. In a recent reply, the state home department included the police’s protection and security arm in a special branch and exempted it from the purview of the transparency Act.
The decision came to light after Malad resident Girish Mittal sought information related to the security provided for a function in his area. “I saw there was excessive police protection for a Mayor’s programme.
