In a freewheeling interview with Tuli Banerjee, comedian and renowned actor Satish Shah discusses his love for acting

Best known for his comic character portrayals, ace actor Satish Shah feels the industry does not have good performers (comedians) because it lacks good writers (humour based). "If I date back to the days when I began my career with Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, I feel that we had to do a lot of hard work. We never had vanity vans following us. Today, actor's life has become very easier. Today, TV actors are no more looked down upon by the film actors. They are seen parallel to the film actors," says Satish.
Having done more than 150-odd films, Shah finds 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani', 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' and 'Main Hoon Naa' closest to his heart. "I have loved doing all the Farah Khan movies. I'm very comfortable doing films with her," says the 58-year-old actor who was in Ahmedabad for a promotional event.
Sharing his love for Gujarat, Shah says, "This is my second visit to Gujarat, this year. I'm a Kutchi Gujarati, from Mandvi and I love Gujarat a lot." Married to a Goan, Madhumita Shah, Satish remembers his days in Gujarat, "There was none in my family who was an actor. I was the only black sheep who eventually turned out to be a ram."
Describing himself as a complete family man Satish says, "I don't have any vices and I am a complete family man. When I am not acting, I am at home with my wife." Full of praises for his wife, Satish says, "She's a wonderful wife and an equally good fashion designer, who designs ethnic sarees and salwar kurtas. In fact, I keep telling her that once she starts doing slightly better, I'll give up the industry and retire."
Satish Shah has also been a company to many of the debutante actors of Bollywood. Ask him to name a few and Satish begins his list, "I have been a company to Govinda in 'Love 86', Shahid Kapoor in 'Ishq Vishq', Akshay Khanna in 'Himalayputra', Hrithik Roshan in 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai', Ritesh Deshmukh in 'Tujhe Meri Kasam', and the list continues with the latest actor Jackky Bhagnani in 'Kal Kissne Dekha' that will release on May 29."
Ask him about his future plans and Satish says, "Definitely directing will never be a part of my future plans. Directing is a full time job while I'm a lazy person by nature. I love to come back to my wife and laze around as soon as shoots are over. Currently, I'm happy with the acting," he winds up.
