NCP leader Ratna Vora files police complaint

NCP leader and advocate Ratna Vora has filed a complaint against Congress MLA from Shaher Kotda, Shailesh Parmar, for allegedly hiding his caste and unduly taking benefit of Scheduled Caste category.
Vora has alleged in the complaint that Parmar contested from Shaher Kotda constituency by submitting a fake caste certificate. She has said that though Parmar belongs to 'Mochi' caste, he produced a certificate showing that belongs to 'Vankar' caste. In Gujarat, 'Mochi' caste comes under backward class (BC) category, whereas 'Vankar' caste comes under SC category.
Vora has filed the complaint against Parmar at Karanj police station and also with social welfare department. She has also brought to the notice of assembly speaker Ashok Bhatt, urging him that Parmar should be disqualified as a member of the assembly.
Talking to DNA, Vora said: "Bhatt has assured me of an inquiry in this connection." Vora had unsuccessfully contested against Parmar in the 2007 assembly elections. After the polls, she had sought information about Parmar's caste from the welfare department of AMC through RTI.
Through the RTI application, Vora came to know that Parmar belongs to 'Mochi' community. She also came to know that Parmar's father Manubhai Parmar, who was once an MLA, had changed his caste to 'Vankar'.
Vora also submitted Parmar's caste certificate he had got before 1975, in which his caste was shown as 'Mochi'. Shailesh Parmar, a land developer, was born on June 26, 1969 to Manu Parmar and Ramila. His father was MLA and state minister and also fought Lok Sabha elections from Ahmedabad. When contacted for comments, Parmar could not be reached as his mobile phone was switched off.
