Mahesh Elkunchwar will give away the award on March 7

Veteran sant and folk literature researcher Ramchandra Chintaman Dhere will receive the prestigious Punyabhushan award on March 7.
Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal made this announcement at a press conference in the presence of Tridal representatives Satish Desai, Prakash Paigude, Sudhir Gadgil among others.
The organisation has been giving the award for 21 years. It comprises a memento and Rs1 lakh which will be given away by noted playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar while Jnanpith award winner Kannada writer SL Bhairappa will preside.
Dhere, who is known to avoid functions, has agreed to be present for the ceremony. The award has been conferred upon Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi, Yoga guru BKS Iyengar, Jayant Narlikar, Pu La Deshpande, SL Kirloskar, RN Dandekar, Rohini Bhate, Prataprao Godse, Mohan Dharia, Chandu Borde and others.
Former president APJ Abdul Kalam, former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, politicians Manohar Joshi, Sharad Pawar, Lata Mangeshkar, Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev have been the chief guests. Dhere has penned more than 100 books and received many awards including Sahitya Akademi award and Maharashtra Gaurav. His works include Srivitthal: Ek Mahasamanvay, Lajjagauri and research papers.
Five freedom fighters would be felicitated at the award function. Vijaya Shankar Chitale (84), Chagan Shantinath Bagewadikar (86), Shanta Ratanlal Kotecha (85), Bimalendu Sengupta (87) and Leelatai Ratilal Merchant (86) will receive a citation.
