The on-off saga of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi has taken a new turn. By pairing them together for the London Olympics, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) has merely aggravated the discord between the friends-turned-foes-turned-friends-turned-foes.
Whether they are the best available pair to represent India is a matter of debate, but if the selectors, in their collective wisdom, think so, everyone must abide by their decision. Paes, Bhupathi or Rohan Bopanna, who have conveniently availed of government grants, routed through the AITA, cannot now be allowed a choice in the matter.
