“One of the projects involves designing a communication strategy for sanitation behaviour change in rural Gujarat and implementing the pilot project. The issues that have been identified thus far include design issues, fund management, lack of space and water supply, cultural issues, gender bias, etc. Currently the students are working towards finding viable solutions for such problems and are designing an apt awareness campaign that will address all issues,” said Prasad.
Pritesh Kumar Sinha, one of the team members working on the sanitation project, said, “As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), umpteen toilets have been constructed by the government machinery which go unused in many parts of Gujarat. We are mainly looking at the rural mindset behind using or not using toilets and how to motivate villagers to use toilets rather than choosing open defecation.”
Another project under the FII involves conceptualisation of e-Haat – an online marketing platform for various products manufactured by the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and implementing a pilot scheme. It will help women become self-reliant.
