HIBACHI
Use of the word Hibachi with food is a marketing flaw that dates back a few decades. Hibachi is supposed to be a traditional Japanese heating device that is used for heating rooms and houses more than it has ever been used for cooking food. The Shichirin (traditional Japanese stove) resembles a Hibachi, and is said to have been confusingly marketed in North America as the Hibachi (maybe it was that easy to pronounce!). Since then, the North American market has stuck to calling it a ‘Hibachi Grill’ or ‘Hibachi Style’ grill, which is supposed to be a small, coal-fired grill for cooking on-the-go.
