This issue has been raised many times earlier by the standing committee of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and each time members said the lapse on part of the contractor is responsible for the problem.
"Why is the NMMC continuing with this contractor, who has been already blacklisted by civic bodies in Kalyan-Dombivali and Bhiwandi-Nizampur," Corporators, across party lines, questioned the civic body.
Another resident from Nerul said, "We have been complaining to the civic authority, but looks like officials have overlooked the problem. One of the officials told us that after a new contractor is appointed things would streamline. We hope things will change at the earliest."
A civic official admitted that there were problems in garbage collection. "We are pressing our dumpers in service to get the garbage cleared at various places. It is not that we are not bothered but we do not have enough vehicles. Our dumpers are moving from one area to another and we are trying to clear the mess," the official said.
Patanjali Pahwa, a resident of Seawoods, said, "Even the rat-infested menace is increasing day-by-day."
