Imagine having a high fever during summer. Imagine being forbidden to have cold drinks or even chilled water. Imagine having to subsist only on bland, boiled food for several months. No, this is not a case of wishful thinking gone awry; these are realities that Mumbaikars are increasingly facing this year due to the intense summer heat. xposure to the hot sun will help you to 'cool it.'
Opt for loose cotton clothes at home and when you step out. Comfort footwear that lets your feet breathe is ideal, as long as it isn't against the office rules. Otherwise, wear comfortable casuals while commuting and switch to formal footwear at the office.
Leave early for work and return late; avoiding the rush hour traffic and crowds will also help you to keep your cool. Avoid spicy food, try and have a large fruit salad with a chilled soup for lunch instead.
Your biggest enemy during the summer season is basic dehydration. The solution is equally simple - push up your intake of water, try to replace coffee and tea with cooling drinks like lemonade, fresh fruit juices like watermelon or iced tea.
Always carry some boiled sweets and bottled water along, it will come in handy in case your blood pressure drops suddenly or if you become overwhelmed by heat exhaustion.
Get smart and keep your filled water bottle in the freezer at night. That way, you'll find cool water available at hand even during a long journey to your workplace.
Visit your regular hair stylist and get a short summer cut done. It makes a big difference, especially when you are stuck in a traffic jam with no air-conditioning!
Wear a cap or floppy hat with a wide brim. And yes; umbrellas are not just for the rains, use them as often as required to shade yourself during the afternoon hours.
