Maestros discuss the nuances and development of Haveli Sangeet, a form of classical music, at Jawahar Kala Kendra

The two-day Haveli Sangeet programme at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) began with a discussion on ‘Contribution of Haveli Sangeet in Indian Classical Music’ on Friday. Talking about the nuances of this genre, Padmabhushan Pandit Gokulotsav Maharaj said that Haveli Sangeet is a pure form of classical music comprising numerous alaaps, gaans and pads sung in the temples.
“Haveli Sangeet and Shastriya Sangeet are similar to each other and the age-old sangeet is dedicated in praise of the almighty. Haveli Sangeet lays the foundation for the other forms of music and is perhaps one of the most melodious forms of music having lay, taal, sur, thumri, and laykaari,” he added.
