Single mom can delete dad’s name from child’s birth certificate: HC

The Bombay High Court has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to issue a fresh birth certificate to a minor child, without the name of the biological father. The single mother had objected to the inclusion of the father’s name in the certificate.
A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Riyaz Chagla, while partly allowing the woman’s petition, directed the corporation to not include the name of the father on the birth certificate and revoke any birth certificates already issued. The court clarified that the relief was only in this particular case.
