Looking back, commissioner Ahmad Javed says he is largely satisfied with his tenure in Navi Mumbai
After a tenure of around one year and ten months as Navi Mumbai police commissioner, Ahmad Javed, known for his discipline and clean reputation has been transferred from the city to director general's office as additional DG (establishment).
Even as he is all set to bid a farewell to the city, looking back, he feels extremely satisfied about the period he has spent here. "I am extremely satisfied and happy about the tenure I had spent in Navi Mumbai. When I came here, the vision was to make the scenario better than how it was then. There are still some areas that need more attention and planning. One of which one is the traffic issue, mainly because traffic is an area in which multiple agencies are involved. With the on-goin

g projects, I believe that the scenario will be better after the completion of these projects," Javed said.
Talking of the most challenging cases he witnessed, he says, "The double murder case at Juinagar railway station was a challenging one which we successfully detected. Meanwhile, there are also undetected cases like the Ghansoli double murder, which still pose a challenge." Even as Navi Mumbai police department was short staffed, the plan of increasing the police presence on the streets by the commissioner was not compromised. "Shortage of staff was a bit of an issue but the police presence was not compromised for that. Even with a little juggling, it was managed," Javed added.
After Ahmad Javed took charge as Navi Mumbai police commissioner on August 9, 2010, there were major projects initiated by him which meant for better policing. These projects involved, introduction of helpline numbers for, senior citizens, women, children and for traffic issues. Opening of Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC) and Personnel Facilitation Centre (PFC) is still a big hit among the common man and the police personnel. Upgrading of the cyber lab in Navi Mumbai with added infrastructure and staff has been a boon of the cybercrime detecting team. The Control room of Navi Mumbai Commissionerate was upgraded with latest technology and a better infrastructure. "We also had initiatives to help public with more information and better access to the senior officials. My cell number along with the cell numbers of the senior police inspectors were made prominent at every police station so that the public could get maximum support from police. Initially I have got calls from public, later the plan worked and they were provided with maximum help and support at police station level itself," Javed said. The commissioner also ensures that all his staff got their salaries without delay on the 1st of every month.
