Alexandrov retains title
Defending champion Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus retained his title at the fifth Mayor's Cup chess tournament here. Alexandrov held his nerve in his final game against Mark Paragua of Phillipines, ensuring that he would be the sole winner.
Alexandrov involved in the Scotch game against Paragua. The players had reached a rook and pawn ending with equal number of pawns but Alexandrov enjoyed positional edge. He then netted a pawn and then the game after 66 moves.
