Mumbai: Going by numbers, the Indian pacers’ performances in nine home Tests this season will pale in comparison with the those the spinners throw up.
In the three series - against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh - Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav and Amit Mishra have taken a combined tally of 121 wickets whereas the speedsters Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Md Shami have accounted for 45.
However, numbers don’t reveal the real picture. The pacers deserve equal credit for India’s success - eight wins since September - and will be crucial against Australia in the last leg of the home stretch that contains four Tests of high intensity.
