Ramanathan storms into Round 2

Mumbai: Wid card entrant Ramkumar Ramanathan stormed into the second round of the ATP Maharashtra Open with a straight sets victory over Roberto Carballes in the opening round in Pune on Monday.
The 23-year-old Indian staved off a stiff challenge from the Spanird in the first set to win it via tie-breaker, and then cruised home with a 7-6(4) 6-2 victory.
But two Indian doubles pair had to make an exit in the opening round, with the Sriram Balaj and Vishnu Vardhan losing to Adil Shamasdin and Neal Skupski, while Arjun Kadhe and Benoit Paire going down to Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop.
There was also a huge upset on the opening day, with Spaniard Ricardo Ojeda Lara’s shocking sixth seed Jiri Vesely.
