Mumbai: Big players step up during big games, and that’s exactly what Sunil Chhetri did.
Riding on their captain’s hat-tricl, Bengaluru FC outclassed FC Pune City 3-1 and booked a place in the final of the Indian Super League in Bengaluru on Sunday.
After a goalless away draw, Bengaluru FC needed to score if they were to move to the final, which will be played at their home in Bengaluru on March 17.
And the man who measured up to the challenge was Sunil Chhetri, who struck a brilliant hat-trick and showed why he is India’s best footballer by some distance.
Chhetri’s first goal in the 15th minute was a lucky one as Pune City’s defence made a mess of a routine header, but his second was simply sublime.
