Mumbai: MS Dhoni threatened to spoil Chris Gayle’s Kings XI Punjab debut. But on a day the Universe Boss made Mohali his very own, it just wasn’t going to happen.
Chennai Super Kings lost by four runs to the hosts on Sunday in a tense run chase of 198, which was taken till the last over by a Dhoni special.
Battling an injury, the former India captain rolled back the years and slammed an unbeaten 79 off just 44 balls, but it wasn’t enough as the visitors fell short by just one hit in the end.
The CSK top-order got starts, but none of them managed to kick on as they were reduced to 56/3 in the seventh over. And once Ambati Rayudu got out for 49 with the score at 113 in the 14th over, it all fell on Dhoni’s shoulders.
