Srikanth enters 2nd round, Prannoy exits

Mumbai: World No. 9 Kidambi Srikanth had an easy opening round in the China Open on Wednesday, cruising past Frenchman Lucas Corvee 21-12 21-16 in Fuzhou.
The match lasted only 35 minutes with the fifth-seeded Indian winning easy.
Srikanth was hardly stretched in either game, though in the second, the Frenchman tried to make a comeback before the former world No. 1 Indian maintained his momentum to shut the match in straight games.
In another men’s singles first round action, world No. 23 HS Prannoy succumbed to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, who is ranked higher at 12. Prannoy lost 11-21 14-21 in 33 minutes.
