Mumbai: Having played so well in the World Cup league stage to top the points table, one bad day at office saw India eliminated from the tournament.
Perhaps, the world governing body, ICC may do well to take a leaf out of the Indian Premier League’s playoffs format includes Qualifiers and Eliminator.
When asked if the IPL-style playoffs format may be an option, India captain Virat Kohli said after the semifinal defeat in Manchester on Wednesday: “Who knows in future. Maybe. If topping the table means anything. I think these things can come into consideration, looking at the magnitude of this tournament. That is a really valid point. You never know when that is going to be implemented.”
