Aus tightens visa norms, India will flex muscles

New Delhi: India may retaliate against countries that are toughening their visa regimes affecting overseas skilled workers. After the United States, the latest to join the race for tightening immigration rules are Australia and New Zealand, popular destinations for Indian workers.
Australia after abolishing the popular 457 work visa used by over 95,000 foreign workers, on Thursday announced tougher citizenship laws for new applicants, including higher English language skills and longer residency requirement, days after the government scrapped a popular visa programme used mostly by Indians.
Ministry of External Affairs here stated that it was “examining the consequences”, adding that it would look at the matter “in the context”
