Yet another patch of the city’s green lung in Aarey Milk Colony is under threat with plans for a new Regional Transport Office (RTO) and test track.
The Borivali RTO needs a bigger plot for operational purposes and they are eyeing a 4-acre plot in Aarey Milk Colony which will come at the cost of 350 to 400 trees. Activists estimate that around 12,000 trees have been lost to developmental projects in the city this year.
The stretch from Goregaon to Dahisar comes under the jurisdiction of Borivali RTO, and it has the highest footfall amongst all of Mumbai’s RTOs. Their current offices are spread over less than an acre at Kandarpada in Dahisar, and most of the plot is occupied by seized vehicles.
