Group meets in different parts of the globe to satiate taste buds
Mumbai: In 1248, when French King Louis IX formed a group for the gastronomically inclined to cultivate culinary skills fit for royal consumption, he would not have expected his vision to spread across the world and last a whopping 765 years.
The group — Chaine des Rotisseurs — comprising food enthusiasts from across the world, including Mumbai, has flourished and keeps meeting at regular intervals to date. It is expected to get together on March 15 in Finland next and has several similar programmes lined up in different parts of the globe such as a gala event in Strasbourg, France, in May.
Membership to the group is 'by invitation' only. Members include professionals such as chefs and hoteliers and non-professionals

who join the group because of their love for good food.
"My love for exploring good food from around the world got me into this," said Devesh Agarwal, a blogger, who keeps shuttling between Mumbai and Bangalore. Devesh regularly attends events organised by Chaine des Rotisseurs across the globe.
Rishad Minocher, an office bearer of the group's Bangalore chapter, says: "Many foodies have shifted their base to Mumbai. Though the group does not have a chapter in the city, they actively participate in all events of Chaine."
As per records, the group survived frequent disruptions over centuries before dissolving in 1793 during the French revolution. The guild was revived in the 1950s thanks to the efforts of journalist Jean Valby and a few others.
