India muscles past France as world’s sixth-largest economy

Mumbai: India has surpassed France to become world’s sixth-largest economy in terms of gross domestic product (GDP), according to figures released by World Bank.
India’s GDP reached $2.597 trillion in 2017, while it was at $2.582 trillion for France, the World Bank said. The United States, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom occupy top 5 places with GDP of $19.390 trillion, $12.237 trillion, $4.872 trillion, $3.677 trillion, $2.622 trillion respectively.
In terms of per capita GDP, the figure in India is much lower than that in France. While India’s population is 1.38 billion, France has 67 million people.
