Police inspector Pravin Patil was removed from service after a departmental inquiry found that an accused sponsored his holiday abroad in 2006. Patil claimed the family holiday was sponsored by his relative and even submitted bogus documents to prove it. However, an inquiry revealed that Haresh Jashnani, an accused involved in a case investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), sponsored his trip.
When posted with the EOW in 2005, Patil had skipped work between December 11 and 20 without taking permission. "Without taking prior permission from his superiors, he went to London with his family to see a film shoot," a police officer told DNA.
