Sewers to get ‘endoscopy’ for de-clogging

Mumbai: With clogged drains becoming the main cause of water-logging in Mumbai every monsoon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has acquired a ‘Sighted nozzle’ to
look into underground storm drains and detect obstructions. The contraption comprises a TV camera, mounted on top of a sewer-cleaning nozzle, which will relay images of underground
storm water drains through radio transmission.
The Sighted Nozzle enables cleaning and inspection simultaneously. The view in front of and behind the camera can be monitored via two transmission channels. The camera can also be adjusted to different pipe diameters and water levels. It has a turbine-generator unit for internal power generation, which allows for unlimited
