Sweet victory! Rosogolla belongs to Bengal

Kolkata: After about two-and-a-half years, West Bengal finally won the tug of war with Odisha over Geographical Indications (GI) registration regarding the origin of rosogolla. On Tuesday, Chennal-based GI Registry declared that rosogolla originated in West Bengal, and not Odisha.
Sanjay Bhattacharya, deputy controller of patents and designs in Kolkata, said it had been settled under the GI Act, which authenticates a product with respect to its geographical location or community.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee who is London, tweeted about it. “Sweet news for us all. We are very happy and proud that #Bengal has been granted GI (Geographical Indication) status for rosogolla,” her tweet read. State education minister Partha C
