Vintage sarees pull in the crowds

OLD IS GOLD: Traditional saree buyers admiring vintage sarees, most of which are worth over a lakh rupees, at the Vintage Mysore Silk Saree exhibition organised by the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited in Bangalore


The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation had organised a 'Vintage Mysore Silk Sarees' competition as a part of it its six-day-long Mysore Silk Saree exhibition on December 20. Participants had to showcase their vintage sarees at the competition, with the best three sarees to be adjudged the winners.
The competition was flocked by 101 competitors, but finally it was three women, Chamundi Gopal, Aryanmba Pattabhi and Mythili who emerged victorious. All three shared the first prize and were awarded Mysore Silk sarees worth Rs 15,000 each. While 10 other women were given Mysore Silk sarees sarees worth Rs 4,200 each as consolation prize. The awards were given away by film actress and Padma Bhushan awardee B Saroja Devi.
