You’ve been hitting the gym for countless days now but the pair of jeans that has come to represent your target figure still doesn’t slide up your thigh like you desperately want it to. If you’ve wondered why all the sweating out isn’t paying off, here’s a clue: you’re focussing on the wrong aspect. It’s not the exercise but the diet that needs more attention. After years of being told that sedentary lifestyles and lack of exercise has made us fat, we’ve bought into the hype that strenuous workouts are the only way to slimmer waists. While that might be true, it’s only half the truth. Sign up for a rigorous off-the-shelf weight-loss regime and you have, unwittingly, entered a trap door, research says.
