This year has been a thrilling ride for the Gujarati film industry. Out of several films released in the regional industry only two were blockbuster hits. And by ‘blockbuster’ hits we mean they have come close to breaking records of the trade industry. Also a heads up on what’s in store for the coming year for all the movie buffs out there!

Local faces shine
For Yash Soni ka Nikhil , Mayur Chauhan aka Naresh, Malhar Thakar aka Vicky, Mitra Gadhvi aka Loy of Chhello Divas and Kinjal Rajpriya,  this year put them in the spotlight  and turned them to overnight celebrities. “The feeling is still sinking in”, said an elated Gadhvi. Expressing his joy on his newfound stardom, Thakar said, “I was never good at clicking selfies, when I saw a huge queue of people standing to click a selfie with me, my happiness knew no bounds.”
Bhool Bhulaiyaa to Gujjubhai
Gujarati theatre actor Jimmit Trivedi got his big break in the 2015 blockbuster flick ‘Gujjubhai-The Great’ opposite theatre legend Siddharth Randeria. The talented actor garnered high praise from the critics who were also of the opinion that in some of the scenes Trivedi was at par with Randeria in acting. We are likely to see Trivedi in another Gujarati film ‘Polampol’ in the coming year.

Major Comebacks to be seen in 2016
Divyang Thakkar:
Although Thakkar chose to be tight lipped about it, if the buzz in the film industry is to be believed then the ‘Kevi Rite Jaish’ and ‘Bey Yaar’ actor is likely to stage a comeback in 2016 in a film likely to go out on the floors by May 2016.
