Jaipur Kala Chaupal, India’s premier art festival kicked off its exposition at the Jawahar Kala Kendra with much fanfare on Wednesday. The exposition is a result of a ten-day residency project hosted by the Diggi Palace from October 20 to 30. The residency witnessed a total of 42 artists, 28 international and 14 Indian who collaborated with various local artisans to create art works based on the theme, ‘Water’.
The exposition had a unique opening ceremony in the form of an interesting live painting session by renowned painter and mural artist, Suresh K Nair in collaboration with Alla Dickson of USA. The painting was a celebration of water, the life giver. The opening ceremony was followed by a presentation and talk on the theme ‘Our Body and Hands in Water’ by Helen Frederick from USA.
The highlight of the day was a presentation by renowned Indian contemporary art veteran Anjolie Ela Menon. Noted Indian designer, scenographer and art curator, Rajeev Sethi’s art was also highly appreciated. This was followed by a live wire fashion show and walk through the galleries curated by Abhimanyu Singh Tomar for Taika-Poonam Bhagat.
Bhagat specially designed a clothing line in sync with ‘Our Body & Hands in Water’ – with shades of blue and white and flowy garments with environmental friendly textiles for Jaipur Kala
Chaupal.
On the side lines of the festival, Leenika Jacob, chief organiser, said, “We are extremely overjoyed with the response we have received for Jaipur Kala Chaupal in our inception year. The past couple of weeks have been an exciting journey for all of us, especially the artists exploring water as a theme, collaborating with each other, and co-creating amazing works of art that we have come to display here today until November 4.”
