Kumarpal Desai gets literary gold

The Gujarati author was felicitated with Ranjitram Suvarnachandrak at an event on Saturday

Ahmedabad: Renowned author and journalist Dr Kumarpal Desai was facilitated with the prestigious Ranjitram Suvarnachandrak, the highest literary award in Gujarati literature, at an event held at Shri Hiralal Bhagwati Sabha Gruh, Gujarat Vishwakosh Bhavan on Saturday. An author of more than a 100 books including subjects such as biographies, criticism, research, translation, novella, religion and children's literature, Desai has also been awarded 'Gaurav Puraskar' by Gujarati Sahitya Academi, 'Shri Dhanji Kanji Gandhi Award for Literature' by Gujarat Sahitya Sabha, among others. Author Chandrakant Mehta said, "Talking about Kumarpalbhai is like talking about my younger brother. He is not a person who admires worldly treasures, but someone who is a purveyor of spiritual treasures. He has not only preached about religion but also practiced whatever he has preached." Talking about Desai, well-known author Praful Rawal said, "I have known Kumarpal Desai for 20 years and he is someone who can set as an example for budding writers. He is an inspiration." The facilitation ceremony was attended by several known names from the Gujarati literary world such as Chandrakant Mehta, Praful Rawal, Balvant Jani, Dhirubhai Parikh, RT Savaliya, Nalini Desai, among others.
