Sanpada: Although Sanpada resident Ajay Kedare has a science background, he likes spending most of his time behind the camera, capturing human emotions. He calls himself a digital film maker and is a story-teller at heart. "It took me 14 years of working in mainstream media, continuous observation and constant exertion with myself to realise my inner calling - 'My love for real life stories,'" says Kedare.
He was fortunate that in the very beginning of his career, he got opportunities to work with the biggest Bollywood stars. "I worked with Shah Rukh Khan for his Film production company Dreamz Unlimited (now Red chillies) and renowned film directors like Aziz Mirza and Ram Gopal Varma. I also worked for some of the biggest reality shows on Indian television. It was while working on reality TV when I realised the uniqueness of each individual and how much more thrilling it was to capture human emotions in their essence" adds Kedare. This is when he began to step away from Bollywood and walking towards his destined path i.e. real life cinema, that he calls — Personal Media.
Being the creative head in post-production, he gave up his job mid-way in search of something that would excite him. Something where he had the freedom and liberty to express, yet have its own charm to make people happy. In the initial stage of looking for his dream job with his little kitty in hand, he made a short profile film of a cafe owner who gave up his corporate job to do something of his own.
"Since the very beginning, I have been a non-fiction guy, so real life stories is what I get a kick out of. I continued shooting people's profiles and also did some NGO and school shoots. It was a totally different experience altogether," adds the 38-year-old.
A little later, he started a company called Candid Shutters with his partner Pranjal Kumar. Now the company is about two-and-a-half-year-old. They do photo as well as video shoots, along with profile video shoots. They also do wedding filming.
"I look for inspiring stories of ordinary people, positivity even in the most off-putting environment and I am always able to find one. I revel in making documentary films for individual artistes, corporations, educational institutes or even weddings. Capturing someone's wedding is like taping a story and it is an enriching experience as there is so much happening on the day. Making wedding documentaries gives me immense mental peace. Just the thought that my work helped people express their true feelings for their loved ones, strengthened bonds and inspired them for a better life, makes me feel alive," he adds.
He says, "Your work should make you happy"
When it comes to work,
his mantra is, 'It is more about the subject and less about you'.
