Asthma attack: Take that old stuffed toy away to keep your child safe, say docs

Jaipur: Soft toys, which you so lovingly buy for your kids, are home to dust mites which are known to cause asthma. They can't be removed even if they are cleaned regularly, warn doctors. So, it is important to help children give up a toy willingly as they grow up, city-based doctors suggest.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 40 per cent of the 3 crore asthmatics in India are children below 14 years. Hospital records indicate that 71 per cent children with asthma are below five years of age at the time of first attack. In such a scenario, treating children with asthma is often a bigger challenge for doctors, the toughest part being taking away kids' favourite plaything: the teddy.
