Why the city gets flooded every year

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gets blamed for monsoon floods every season. But while the BMC has a significant role to play, there are other reasons that keep Mumbai underwater during monsoon, which have to do with rapid urbanisation and waste disposal.
A report by Indian Environment Portal highlighted how the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and construction at Bandra-Kurla Complex affect the city. BKC was built over mangroves, which are a natural barrier to prevent flooding. And the sea link restricted the flow of the Mithi, one of the city’s rivers, into the sea.
