Dholpur by-polls: It's battle of the better halves
Jaipur: The Dholpur by-election has now turned into an interesting triangular contest with Mamta, wife of once considered a dreaded dacoit of Chambal, Jagan Gurjar, filing her nomination as an Independent on Monday. BJP has given ticket to Shobharani, wife of murder accused and ex-BSP MLA BL Kushwaha, while veteran Banwari Lal Sharma got a Congress ticket. Both women are banking on their caste voters. education qualification. Her only claim to fame seems to be that she is the wife of but her appearance in public domain was nowhere before the announcement of by-poll. She hopes to win the election by riding on a sympathy wave she expects after convection of her husband and that is the reason why the ruling BJP has put a bet on her. She edges past Mamta in terms of vote strength of Kushwaha caste which is nearly 33,000 in Dholpur.
Kushwaha’s wife hopes to ride sympathy wave
Mamta is pitted against Shobharani, wife of murder accused MLA BL Kushwaha. The Dholpur seat fell vacant following termination of Kushwaha’s membership by the state Assembly after he was convicted for a murder by a local court. Shobharani also a debutant in politics is a masters degree holder, Jagan Gurjar on whose ‘popularity’ she wants to ride through the election. She has remained confined to household works and has spent most of her time waiting for her husband’s release from jail.
