Himachal polls set for November 9: EC

New Delhi: Belying speculations, the Election Commission on Thursday announced elections only for Himachal Pradesh, holding back Gujarat’s schedule for a later date.
A single-phase election will be held for the 68 Assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh on November 9; counting of votes will be done on December 18, Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti said. “This is to ensure that the voting pattern of one state does not affect the other... polling in Gujarat will be held before December 18 (when Himachal results are announced),” Joti said.
The term of the 182-member Gujarat Assembly ends on January 22, while the term of the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly ends on January 7. Asked if the announcement of Guja
