Hoklars, whose ancestors had donated for the statue, were furious over vandalism

Four days after hoodlums vandalized it, scions of erstwhile Royal Holkar family, among others, prevailed upon Raigad, (Maharashtra) district administration to reinstall statue of dog along side Chhatrapati Shivaji memorial at the Raigad fort. Prince Tukoji Holkar had got the statue installed in 1906.
The vandalism had cause furore in the Holkar descendants. Historian Dr Ganesh Matkar said that the memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's dog - 'Waghya' was erected at his fort - Raigad. The dog was so loyal to Shivaji that it had jumped into fire during his master's cremation".
