Cauvery plan: Centre submits draft to SC

New Delhi: The Centre submitted a draft of the Cauvery water management scheme before the Supreme Court on Monday, only a day ahead of Karnataka’s state election results. A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud said it would examine the scheme and, gave the four stakeholder states time till Wednesday to file their responses on it.
On May 3, the Centre had sought more time to submit the scheme on grounds that the Prime Minister was away for elections in Karnataka and hence the Cabinet could not review it. The Centre’s delay had irked the court that had summoned the secretary of the water resources ministry on Monday.
