Panvel: City residents will have to wait for some more time to get a train for Solapur from Panvel as the Central Railway is still working on the feasibility to run Siddeshwar Express in the diverted route. However, the railway Pravasi Sangh, Panvel claimed that the railway board has already approved the proposal to run the train via Panvel-Karjat.
According to the Pravasi Sangh, the railway board had approved the proposal about two months ago and the final call will be taken by the Central Railway. “The Central Railway official assured us that they would soon start the trial run to see the response,” said Dr Bhakti Dave, president of the Pravasi Sangh.
Railway Pravasi Sangh has been demanding additional train services for Pune for a long time.
AK Singh, PRO Central Railway, confirmed that the demands of trains via Panvel were made in the past by Navi Mumbai residents. “We have received several demands to run trains via Panvel-Karjat but we have yet to take any decision in this regard,” said Singh.
At present, the Siddeshwar Express runs between Mumbai CST and Solapur via Kalyan-Karjat. “In the beginning of the month, railway officials assured us that the services would be started soon via Panvel,” said Dave.
At present, residents have to go to Mumbai CST or Dadar to take a train for Solapur or for western Maharashtra. “The population of Navi Mumbai has risen substantially and demands for separate trains for Pune and Solapur are rising,” said Dave.
