DNA Campaign: Enough is Enough
Organisations staged an agitation at the Tribal Development Commissionerate at Nashik on Saturday demanding the suspension of senior officials of tribal development in connection with the rape of an 18-year-old tribal girl. These organisations included the BJP, Chhatra Bharati, Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti, Adivasi Mahadev Koli Vikas Sanghatana amongst others.
The girl bwas allegedly raped by four people on December 23. She filed a case with the Surgana police on December 27 and had said that the delay in doing so was because she had been threatened against informing the police. While action was taken against the headmaster of the school, the agitating organisations demanded that senior officials be suspended and proper infrastructure be provided.
The BJP protest was led by MP Harishchandra Chavan who said, "Insufficient infrastructure and vacant posts at tribal schools have always been a matter of concern. For the longest time, we have been demanding the fulfillment of these but this time it came at a heavy cost." Prabhakar Vaichale, district president of Chhatra Bharati said, "The culprits need to be punished and the officials responsible should be suspended."
